UFC 227 Demetrious Johnson Makes $380,000 guarantee #UFC #UFC227 #MMA

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting LOS ANGELES — Demetrious Johnson led the day when it comes to fight purse, even if he dropped his belt and historic streak. “Mighty Mouse” took in a guaranteed $380,000 at  UFC 227  on Saturday night here at Staples Center, per a document obtained by MMA Fighting from the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). Johnson fell to  Henry Cejudo  in the co-main event of the card by split decision, dropping the UFC flyweight title in the process. Johnson had won a UFC record 11 straight title defenses coming in. Cejudo pulled in a guaranteed $100,000. Neither Johnson nor Cejudo earned a win bonus. Johnson is believed to be getting a share of the pay-per-view revenue for the event. In the main event, TJ Dillashaw retained his UFC bantamweight title, beating  Cody Garbrandt  by first-round TKO. Dillashaw pulled in a guaranteed $350,000 for the bout. Garbrandt, the former champ, made a guaranteed $200,000. The next hig...

UFC Calgary: Mixed results for Canadians #UFC #FIGHTNIGHTCAGARY

All things considered, three-out-of-six isn’t so bad. Saturday night’s UFC Fight Night: Calgary card was a massive showcase for some of the top Canadian talent in the promotion. In the end, the Canadians batted .500. That’s probably a win, all things being equal. The night didn’t start particularly well for fighters from the Great White North, as both Randa Markos, of Windsor, Ont., and Victoria, B.C.’s Alexis Davis dropped decisions. Markos kept things close with strawweight contender Nina Ansaroff, but Ansaroff used a steady stream of leg kicks to narrowly edge out the win. It wasn’t a terrible loss by any means, but it’s got to be frustrating for Markos. In her nine fight UFC career, she’s never won two in a row, and has never lost back-to-back fights either. She’s just kind of stuck there. It’s a similar situation for Davis, who entered Saturday night ranked No. 3 in the women’s flyweight division, but just didn’t really cause any serious damage against Katlyn Chookagian. Davis isn...

Mike Brown: Darren Till getting title shot over Colby Covington is ‘devaluing’ UFC belts #ufc #mma #colbycovington #tyronrwoodley

Colby Covington’s coach isn’t happy with the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) decision to give Darren Till a welterweight title shot. Covington is the interim UFC welterweight champion, but that’ll change once Tyron Woodley and Till enter the Octagon.  Woodley defends his gold against “The Gorilla”  at UFC 228 inside the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas on Sept. 8. Covington is out due to sinus surgery, but his recovery time was said to be short. Speaking to  MMAFighting.com , American Top Team coach Mike Brown expressed disappointment in the decision: “I’m pretty bummed about it. I just feel like its devaluing the belts. You can’t just make every fight a title fight if it doesn’t go your way. It just doesn’t seem right, it doesn’t seem like it’s good for long-term value for the titles. That’s a big problem. That’s the bottom line, I think they’re devaluing the belts. Everybody sees it. He’s of course upset. But what are you gonna do? Life g...
