LOS ANGELES — Demetrious Johnson led the day when it comes to fight purse, even if he dropped his belt and historic streak.
“Mighty Mouse” took in a guaranteed $380,000 at UFC 227 on Saturday night here at Staples Center, per a document obtained by MMA Fighting from the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). Johnson fell to Henry Cejudo in the co-main event of the card by split decision, dropping the UFC flyweight title in the process. Johnson had won a UFC record 11 straight title defenses coming in.
Cejudo pulled in a guaranteed $100,000. Neither Johnson nor Cejudo earned a win bonus. Johnson is believed to be getting a share of the pay-per-view revenue for the event.
In the main event, TJ Dillashaw retained his UFC bantamweight title, beating Cody Garbrandt by first-round TKO. Dillashaw pulled in a guaranteed $350,000 for the bout. Garbrandt, the former champ, made a guaranteed $200,000.
The next highest purse on the card was Cub Swanson, who made a guaranteed $90,000 for his fight with Renato Moicano. Swanson, who was on the first fight of his new contract, fell to Moicano by first-round submission. Moicano cashed a guaranteed $52,000 ($26,000 to show and $26,000 for the win). Swanson would have made another $40,000 had he won.
